Own a Piece of Pasadena History at Castle Green – Luxury Condos in a Landmark Building

In the heart of Old Pasadena stands one of the city’s most beloved architectural treasures—Castle Green. With its romantic towers, intricate ironwork, and lush gardens, this iconic structure is more than just a beautiful building. It’s a rare opportunity to own a piece of Pasadena history at Castle Green – luxury condos in a landmark building that has stood the test of time.

A Storied Past

Built in 1898 as the glamorous annex to the famed Hotel Green, Castle Green was designed by celebrated architect Frederick I. Roehrig. It became a winter haven for wealthy Easterners and quickly earned a reputation as one of Pasadena’s premier resorts. With its blend of Moorish, Spanish, and Victorian influences, Castle Green remains one of Southern California’s most visually striking landmarks.

Originally known for opulence and modern conveniences—including being Pasadena’s first fireproof building—the structure has welcomed notable guests and hosted elegant events for more than a century.

In the early days of the Hotel Green complex, there was an ornate enclosed pedestrian bridge that spanned Raymond Avenue, directly connecting the Castle Green building (the Central Annex) to the main Hotel Green structure across the street.

  • Designed by Frederick Roehrig in 1898, the bridge—often dubbed Promenade Hall—was about 205 feet long and featured cushioned seating, allowing guests to stroll over Raymond Avenue comfortably, even watching the Rose Parade from above.

  • It operated from the annex’s opening in January 1899 until about 1929, when it was removed following structural changes: the main hotel was dismantled down to its ground floor, and the bridge was no longer needed.

So while it’s no longer standing, that lovely bridge once served as a direct, enclosed link between the two iconic historic buildings.
